Have you ever though about the affect drugs have on your genes? Your body’s genetic code can actually be altered when you use drugs. Studies show that 89 of the 3,000 genes in your body are linked to drug dependence and drug abuse. Other personal traits like back problems, sense of smell, and how good you are at dancing are linked to genetics. So why not drug dependence?
Experts report that as much as 60% of your risk for addiction is made up by your genetic code. And your environment can increase the likelihood of those genetic traits surfacing. Children who so much as see their parents smoking, drinking, or using drugs have an increased risk of developing addictive behaviors.
