Are There Fun Activities In Addiction Treatment Programs?

Addiction treatment is more than just talk. Counseling sessions, therapy sessions and 12 step meetings can be tiring. That’s why our treatment includes plenty of time in your daily schedule to renew your body, mind, and soul with fresh air, excellent food, and fun addiction recovery activities in Florida.

Many addicts give up things they once loved to do. It’s not uncommon to put aside things that gave you pleasure, often losing sight of hobbies and other enjoyable addiction recovery activities in Florida. Learning once again that it’s okay to laugh, relax and enjoy yourself without drugs is just as important as talking to a counselor during your sessions.

Our stunning Florida location makes it an ideal spot for outdoor addiction recovery activities in Florida. Residents can enjoy a swim in the outdoor pool, time on the beach or fellowship on the deck overlooking the ocean.

To heal your body, we encourage you to spend time in the gym, where a personal trainer can help you learn new routines to regain your fitness and rebuild your strength. Yoga, meditation, and other addiction recovery activities in Florida round out the ways in which clients take part in their own health and healing.

Our Addiction recovery Activities Encourage a Pleasant Experience

Life in rehab should not be an unpleasant experience. Instead, it should be time for you or your loved one to learn the tools and skills necessary for living a sober life. Our counselors and specialists are uniquely qualified to understand the fears and feelings of our clients because they are all recovering alcoholics and addicts themselves. They understand that a key component to living a real recovery means learning to enjoy once-loved activities. That is why the 12 Keys real recovery program features fun addiction recovery activities in Florida available to each and every client.

Spend the day offshore trying for a giant trophy fish or relax with your thoughts by our large on-property pool. Work on your golf game at one of Florida’s incredible 18-hole courses or laugh with new friends over bowling. Learn to horseback ride, surf, and snorkel, or practice yoga for an unmatched and deep, life-affirming relaxation.

The recovery experience also includes opportunities to kayak and play softball, read and reflect, and try new addiction recovery activities in Florida such as going for an airboat ride. Whichever you choose, your recovery experience will permit ample time to reflect and re-engage with the pleasures of fun — and sober — lifestyle.

What Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Activities Will I Participate in?

During your stay, you’ll participate in both group and individual counseling sessions, as well as 12 step meetings. Here’s what to expect from each:

  • Group counseling sessions: Group sessions include several participants and a therapist who facilitates the discussion. The group may meet to work on issues related to anger, abandonment, sexuality or other topics. Sharing is encouraged. What’s said in group meetings is kept private by the participants. Some groups may include addiction recovery activities to help you recognize problems or build trust and other emotional skills you may need to work on in recovery.
  • Individual counseling: Private, one-on-one therapy sessions are a key part of your recovery plan. You’ll meet privately with your assigned counselor to discuss your addiction and anything else you might like to talk about. You may work out traumatic issues using eye movement desensitization, a technique that re-patterns your thoughts with simple eye movements. You may also benefit from cognitive behavioral therapy, which helps you retrain your thinking process to avoid situations and thoughts that lead to addictive behaviors.
  • 12 step meetings: 12 step meetings follow the same protocols no matter where you attend them. During a 12 step meeting in treatment, a leader announces the meeting and welcomes everyone. The Serenity Prayer is recited, then the 12 steps and 12 traditions of Alcoholics Anonymous (or Narcotics Anonymous) are read. Meetings with assigned speakers will then introduce the speaker, who shares his or her story with the group. After the speaker, the floor is opened for personal shares. Each person gets a set amount of time to share, and equal time is granted to each person to speak. Some meetings include time to put your name on a sponsor sheet — either to ask for a sponsor or say you will sponsor someone else — or a “phone sheet”, which simply means you are willing to talk to anyone when they want a fellow addict to talk to as part of their program work. At the end of the meeting, there may be time for fellowship and relaxation among members.
